A Full-Circle Weekend of History, Storytelling and Connection at the Biltmore Hotel

Some experiences are difficult to capture in a single photograph or social media post. They are made up of small moments—the conversations in the hallway, the laughter shared over dinner, the quiet reflection after a long day and the feeling of realizing you are exactly where you are supposed to be.

My recent stay at the historic Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles was one of those experiences.

I traveled to California with the Honor Box Studios team to attend the National Social Media Awards, an event that brought together content creators, advocates, entrepreneurs, veterans, entertainers and individuals who have used their platforms to inform, inspire and serve their communities.

For me, returning to California made the experience even more personal.

I grew up in California, and as a child and teenager, I remember going to Hollywood and being fascinated by everything surrounding it. There was an energy to the area—the history, the entertainment industry, the people and the stories—that stayed with me.

At that age, I could never have imagined that one day I would return as the owner of a media company, an author, a storyteller and part of a team attending a national awards event.

That realization made the weekend feel like a full-circle moment.

Experiencing Hollywood Through a New Chapter

From the moment we arrived, the Biltmore provided a remarkable setting for the weekend. Its architecture, elegance and connection to Hollywood history made it feel as though every hallway carried a story.

As someone who deeply values history and storytelling, I found myself taking in the details and thinking about all the people, conversations and creative ideas that had passed through those same spaces over the years.

I also thought about the younger version of myself who once visited Hollywood simply excited to experience the atmosphere. Returning decades later, I was seeing it through very different eyes.

This time, I was not only observing the world of media and entertainment from a distance. I was there as someone who had created her own platform, built a media company and dedicated her work to helping others use their voices and share their stories.

But what made the weekend truly special was not simply where we stayed. It was why we were there and who I was able to experience it with.

An Invitation That Meant More Than Attendance

I am incredibly thankful to the National Social Media Awards for inviting us and creating an event where people from different industries and backgrounds could come together.

Social media is often measured in numbers—followers, views, impressions and engagement. However, the most meaningful impact cannot always be measured by an algorithm.

It can be found in the person who finally feels seen, the story that helps someone feel less alone or the connection that develops into a meaningful partnership.

The National Social Media Awards created an opportunity to recognize that kind of influence.

Throughout the weekend, I was reminded that behind every account, organization and business is a person with a story, a mission and a reason for showing up. Being surrounded by so many people using their voices in different ways was both inspiring and motivating.

Gratitude for My Honor Box Studios Team

I also want to offer a very special thank-you to my team at Honor Box Studios.

They did more than invite me to attend an event. They created a space for me to be part of something meaningful.

There is a difference between being present in a room and feeling as though you belong there. Through their trust, encouragement and willingness to include me, the Honor Box Studios team allowed me to contribute my experience, ideas and passion for storytelling.

That is something I will never take lightly.

Honor Box Studios is built around honoring service, preserving legacies and ensuring that meaningful stories are not forgotten. Being able to support that mission while attending an event dedicated to influence and storytelling felt like a natural alignment of purpose.

The weekend also gave us the opportunity to learn more about one another as a team. We celebrated, networked, laughed, navigated busy schedules and created memories that extended far beyond the awards ceremony.

More Than an Event

This trip was about more than recognition.

It was about connection.

It was about seeing old friends and meeting new ones. It was about learning from people who are creating change in their communities. It was about understanding that sometimes the most important moments happen away from the stage and outside of the scheduled program.

For me, it was also another reminder of how far my own journey has taken me.

There was a time when I could not have imagined myself attending events like this, representing a media company, supporting other organizations and confidently entering spaces filled with accomplished creators and leaders.

The little girl and teenager who once visited Hollywood could not have known what the future would hold. She could not have predicted the military career, the challenges, the healing, the book, the advocacy work or the media company that would eventually become part of her story.

Today, I understand that every chapter—even the painful ones—helped prepare me for the work I am doing now.

Carrying the Experience Forward

I returned home from Los Angeles with gratitude, new ideas and a renewed commitment to the work ahead.

I remain passionate about helping others use their voices, share their stories and understand that their experiences have value. I also remain committed to supporting organizations like Honor Box Studios that are doing meaningful work rooted in service, remembrance and legacy.

To the National Social Media Awards, thank you for the invitation and for bringing together a community of people who believe in the power of media to make a difference.

To my Honor Box Studios team, thank you for trusting me, including me and creating a space where I could contribute and grow.

And to everyone who shared a conversation, a laugh, a lesson or a moment with us during the weekend—thank you for becoming part of a memory I will always carry with me.

Returning to California and Hollywood reminded me that sometimes life brings us back to familiar places—not because we are the same people we were before, but so we can recognize how far we have come.

Sometimes the most meaningful part of a journey is not simply where you go.

It is recognizing who made room for you, who walked beside you and how the experience changed you along the way.
