Earls Finest Dining Experience showcased nine local food vendors, welcomed 124 people and proved what can happen when someone creates a space for community, connection and local businesses to shine.
On Friday evening, 124 people gathered in Central Texas for something that was about much more than food.
The event welcomed 117 guests, judges and vendors, along with seven additional individuals who helped bring the experience together. The turnout was an incredible response to an event centered on supporting local businesses, celebrating culinary talent and strengthening our community.
Hosted by Earl Waller, Earl’s Finest Dining Experience invited nine local food vendors to showcase their creativity, talent and passion.
Guests had the opportunity to taste three appetizers, three entrées and three desserts. Each category was judged, and the votes determined who would earn the title of “Earl’s Finest.”
Yes, the food was incredible.
Yes, the competition made the evening exciting.
But what stayed with me most was the community Earl created inside that room.
This was not simply a food competition.
It was an opportunity for local chefs, cooks and small-business owners to place their creations in front of people who may not have otherwise known about them. We did not just taste their food. We met the people behind it. We heard their names, learned about their businesses and experienced the passion they poured into every plate.
That matters.
Small-business owners often work quietly behind the scenes. They spend countless hours creating, planning, cooking, promoting and believing in something that others may not see yet.
An experience like this gives them more than exposure. It gives them an opportunity to feel seen, supported and celebrated.
Earl did that.
Celebrating Earl’s Finest
After the votes were counted, one winner was recognized in each of the three categories.
Rossler’s Blue Cord Barbecue, which can be found on Instagram at @rosslers_blue_cord_bbq, was selected as Earl’s Finest in the appetizer category.
While accepting the award, a representative thanked Earl and recognized the larger purpose behind the evening.
“Thank you, Earl, for bringing us all together,” he said. “This guy is bringing people together, starting ripples and big waves.”
Those words perfectly captured the spirit of the event. Earl was not only creating an opportunity for people to taste great food. He was creating ripples of connection, visibility and support that could continue far beyond one evening.
Kimberly Coleman Johnson of KJ’s Sipsations received the Earl’s Finest award in the entrée category.
During her remarks, Johnson thanked God, her husband, her son and the people who encouraged her to move forward and participate.
“I look forward to serving you all more,” she told the audience.
Her words reminded us that behind every dish was a person, a family, a story and a dream.
Kitty's Kakery was selected as the dessert-category winner.
The owner explained that this was the first time Kitty's Kakery had participated in an event like this and made it clear that the winning dessert was the result of a team effort.
“We have an amazing team, and I greatly appreciate everything that they do,” she said.
The celebration did not end there.
Kitty's Kakery was also announced as the evening’s overall Earl’s Finest winner, receiving the highest total number of votes across the competition.
The announcement left the owner visibly surprised and emotional.
“I feel like in the food industry, dessert places are the hardest to keep open,” she shared. “The fact that you guys voted us overall means so much.”
She expressed her hope that Kitty's Kakery would remain a fixture in the community for many more years.
Her response showed why community support is so important. Everyone needs to eat, but a dessert business can sometimes be viewed as something extra. That makes choosing to support a local bakery even more meaningful.
That evening, the community made its support clear.
More Than an Event
Earl brought 124 people together and created a space where food became the beginning of a much larger conversation.
The official count included 117 guests, judges and vendors, along with seven additional individuals who contributed to the evening. Together, they filled the room with support, excitement and genuine community pride.
Throughout the event, strangers connected, business owners supported one another and members of our community shared an experience they will continue talking about long after the final plate was served.
In the days that followed, the comments, photographs and posts shared across social media made the impact even clearer.
Vendors shared what the opportunity meant to them. Guests celebrated the dishes and the people they met. The pride surrounding the event could be felt throughout our community.
Earl may not have expected the turnout or the outpouring of love he received, but those of us who have followed his work understand why it happened.
I had followed Earl for some time before finally having the opportunity to meet him in person. When that moment came, I knew it happened in God’s timing.
Earl is humble, genuine and has a heart of gold.
He uses his platform to help local businesses receive the attention they deserve, but what makes his work so meaningful is that it never feels like it is about him.
His focus remains on the people, their stories and the community he is working to strengthen.
All he wanted to do was bring people together.
And he did.
“He Loves People. He Loves Unity.”
Following the awards, family members, friends and community supporters shared emotional tributes to Earl and the work he continues to do.
One person explained that Earl is the same genuine man whether he is creating content, walking through a grocery store or interacting with people on the street.
“He loves people. He loves unity,” she said. “That is what we need more of.”
Another speaker reminded Earl that this work was connected to a much greater calling.
“This is what you were born to do,” she told him. “This is your purpose.”
His family also spoke about the man they know outside of the videos, community stories and public events.
His sister described him as someone she looks up to and a person who has always been there to offer support and truth—even when it may not be what she wants to hear.
Earl also recognized his wife and the important role she plays behind the scenes. He explained that her support makes it possible for him to be out in the community telling stories, creating content and uplifting others.
Those moments mattered because they allowed the room to recognize not only the person standing at the front, but also the family, volunteers and community members helping make his work possible.
Earl’s Message to the Community
When Earl addressed the room, he repeatedly gave the credit back to the community.
“Without you guys, everyone coming together to make this happen, this doesn’t happen,” Earl said. “Thank you for the constant support on social media and in person.”
That statement said everything about who Earl is and why this event was so meaningful.
Even during a night created through his vision, Earl made it clear that the experience belonged to everyone.
He thanked the vendors, attendees, judges, event coordinators, hospitality team, volunteers, co-hosts, family members and every person who helped turn his idea into reality.
He also made it clear that Earl’s Finest Dining Experience was not intended to be a one-time event.
“This is one of many more to come,” Earl said. “I hope I see you guys at the next one.”
After seeing 124 people come together for this experience, I believe many will be ready when that next invitation comes.
Bridging Our Military and Civilian Communities
As a veteran and longtime advocate, much of my own work has centered on serving and supporting the military and veteran community. That community will always be an important part of who I am.
However, I also believe we cannot remain separated within our own circles.
Central Texas is home to military families, veterans, entrepreneurs, educators, artists, community leaders and civilians from many different backgrounds.
We may have different experiences, but we share the same neighborhoods. We support the same businesses. We attend the same events. We all want to see our community succeed.
Bridging the gap between our military and civilian communities has always been important to me. Watching Earl bring 124 people together reminded me why that mission matters so much.
Community does not happen simply because we live in the same place.
It happens when someone is willing to create the space, extend the invitation and give people a reason to come together.
Earl’s Finest Dining Experience did exactly that.
There was no division inside that room. We were simply 124 people enjoying great food, supporting local businesses and celebrating the talent that exists right here in Central Texas.
That is what bridging the gap can look like.
It does not always require a formal program or a large campaign. Sometimes it begins by sitting at the same table, sharing a meal and learning the story of the person who prepared it.
The Impact of Showing Up
Sometimes we underestimate what can happen when we show up for one another.
Buying a ticket, tasting a dish, sharing a business online or telling a friend about a local chef may appear to be a small gesture.
To an entrepreneur trying to grow a dream, however, that support can mean everything.
Events like Earl’s Finest Dining Experience remind local business owners that their work matters. They also give the rest of us an opportunity to discover the incredible talent that has been in our community all along.
The turnout demonstrated how much people want opportunities like this.
With 117 guests, judges and vendors, plus seven additional individuals, the event brought together 124 people.
That response says something.
It says our community wants to support local businesses.
It says people are looking for meaningful ways to come together.
It says our local entrepreneurs deserve to be seen.
And it says Earl created something our community needed.
Earl continues to challenge me to strive for more—not only within my military community, but within the civilian community as well.
His example reminds me that using our voices and platforms responsibly can create opportunities, build relationships and make a real difference.
It is not always about having the largest platform or receiving the most attention.
Sometimes it is simply about caring enough to open a door for someone else.
That is leadership.
That is community.
That is impact.
I am honored to know Earl and grateful to support the work he is doing to make Central Texas stronger.
I look forward to seeing where this experience goes next and how many more people, businesses and communities will be connected because one person decided to turn an idea into action.
Congratulations to Rossler’s Blue Cord Barbecue, Kimberly Coleman Johnson and KJ’s Sipsations, Kitty's Kakery and every vendor who stepped forward and shared a part of themselves through their food.
Congratulations to the judges, event team, volunteers and family members whose work helped make the experience possible.
And congratulations to Earl for creating something our community clearly needed.
The evening may have started with nine vendors and nine tastings, but it ended with something much greater.
It ended with 124 people experiencing the power of connection.
Earl did that.
